Since the start of the year the Novel Coronavirus aka COVID-19 has busted our doors open and taken up residence in our lives for what seems to be an indefinite period of time. Within less than 4 months, it has caused worldwide chaos and panic; infecting over 3,400,000 persons and causing 239,622 deaths across 212 countries and territories. Many lives have been cut short, jobs have been lost, businesses have either been closed or have scaled-down operations, schools and church buildings have been empty and medical facilities have been put under immense pressure to handle the rapid demand for health-care. Globally, people have been stressed over the rising concern for their own safety and that of their families. Scores of persons rushed to the stores to stock up on food, others went in search of food and were greeted by empty shelves, while others couldn't make a move because they were unable to find the money to shop for anything. It is undeniable that there has been a lot of tragic events since it's discovery some months ago, but has there been any positives?
Haroon Rashid answered that beautifully in a quote that he shared:
The environment has gotten the chance to renew itself since gathering in public spaces has been restricted and in some cases banned. Parks and beaches have been closed and we have all been asked to "STAY AT HOME!" But since the environment has been given the opportunity to renew and refresh itself, could we take a page from its book and do the same?
We now have the opportunity to spend time with our families and to take some "me time" too. Could we use the additional free time to get some well needed rest, to read a new book, do some exercises or to learn a new skill? Now is the perfect time, doing so will keep us occupied and help us to focus on something positive which will contribute to our overall well-being. While we battle this "invisible enemy" we can focus on what we do have; that is our lives, our families, a roof over our heads and other simple blessings that are often overlooked. Here are 11 things that you can do to beat the COVID-19 blues:
1. Learn a new language
2. Make a bucket list
3. Read a good book (or 2!)
4. Bake your favourite goodies
5. Learn a new skill
6. Maintain a journal
7. Do some DIY projects
8. Set and work towards a dietary or fitness goal
9. Do some gardening
10. Play board games with the family (the kids will love it)
11. Express yourself through art
Life is unpredictable, and this virus has helped to enforce that truth. So let us live our lives with purpose, with love and as if each moment were our last. #StaySafe
